More about Sea World

SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment is a company that offers family entertainment as an amusement park that is zoological themed. SeaWorld was founded by George Millay, Milt Shedd, Ken Norris, and David DeMott. The original plan for their business was an underwater restaurant; however that concept grew substantially into a marine zoological park on 21 acres in San Diego, California along the shore of Mission Bay.

SeaWorld had an original investment of $1.5 million. They opened their gates for the first time in 1964 with a mere 45 employees, sea lions, several dolphins and two salt water aquariums. It was a great year to open this marine based park as it was the year that the television show Flipper first aired. SeaWorld was a great success and drew in more than 400,000 visitors its first year.

SeaWorld went public in 1968, which allowed the park to invest more money to expand and not just in San Diego. A second park was opened in Ohio, in 1970 and a third was added in Orlando in 1973.

In 1989, Anheuser-Busch purchased the theme park under the subsidiary Busch Entertainment as they currently held the ownership of the Busch Gardens parks in Tampa, Florida and Williamsburg, Virginia. In late 2009, the Blackstone Group acquired Busch Entertainment with many stipulations; including no loss of jobs at the parks or the company’s Orlando headquarters and that they keep certain promotions and names, like “Here’s to the Heroes” which was a military appreciation program. The name of the company at this time changed to its name today SeaWorld Entertainment.

SeaWorld launched SeaWorld Cares which protects and rescues animals and sea life. They have many rescues of birds, turtles, sea lions, whales just to name a few. They also help the nature by participating in events like Earth Day Cleanup and Let’s Celebrate Trees.

Today there are three Sea World parks in the United States, including the original park in San Diego, California location and parks in Orlando, Florida and San Antonio, Texas. They also have other parks that connect guests with marine life under the names of Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida, which is a tropical oasis where guests can actually swim with dolphins and other sea animals, and SeaWorld’s Waterpark with three locations in Orlando, San Antonio and San Diego which thrill seekers can enjoy water park rides, nature and animals all in one park. The parks are designed for people of all ages to have up-close encounters with animals with many educational attractions and innovative entertainment for guests to connect with and protect the animals and the natural world around them.

SeaWorld has been a favorite family vacationing place for many years. Their wonderful exhibits, educational programs and amusement rides are a draw for many visitors from all over the world. They have many options for tickets and passes including single-park tickets, multi-park tickets, annual passes and packages that include hotels. To take advantage of deeper discounts, they do accept coupon codes on their website.
