More About Home Depot Canada

The Home Depot, Inc. is an American retailing company of home improvement supplies. It is the largest home improvement retailer in the United States with stores all across the United States (including all 50 states, District of Columbia, Guam, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico), all ten provinces of Canada and the country of Mexico. It was founded in 1978 by Bernard Marcus, Arthur Blank, Ron Brill and Pat Farrah.

Bernie and Arthur had a vision to create a company that would keep alive the values that were important to them. Values like respect among all people, excellent customer service and giving back to the community. They chose to build home improvement superstores that were larger than their competitors. In 1979, the first two stores were built in spaces leased by J.C. Penney in metro Atlanta, Georgia in Doraville and on Memorial Drive in Decatur.

They went public within two years and continued their expansion branching out to Florida, opening stores in Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale. By 1994 they were operating 19 stores with revenues over $256 million.

That same year the Home Depot branched out into Canada with the acquisition of the five Aikenhead’s Home Improvement Warehouse, then owned by the Molson Companies. The Home Depot began opening additional stores throughout Canada, beginning with stores in the Greater Toronto Area. They then ventured into western Canada and opened a store in Edmonton, Alberta.

By the year 2000, Home Depot had a 60 store presence in Canada; they expanded east that year and opened their first store in Quebec. By 2003, Home Depot was celebrating its 100th store opening in Canada with a new store in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Today Home Depot has 182 stores in ten provinces of Canada, employs 28,000 Canadian associates and has a thriving online store, www.homedepot.ca.

You can find all that you need for any home improvement project or remodeling project at its many stores or website. They have appliances, tools, electrical supplies, storage and organizational supplies, plants and gardening supplies, home décor and furniture, windows and doors, lighting and ceiling fans, bathroom fixtures, kitchen fixtures, area rugs, flooring, building materials, plumbing and all the nuts and bolts in between. They are very competitive in pricing, have their own in-house financing, and have frequent sales and specials.

Home Depot exclusively carries several major brands including; Chem-Dry (carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, tile and grout services), Behr paints, Rheem water heaters, Homelite (outdoor and power tools), Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (outdoor furniture, indoor organization), Ryobi and Ridgid (power tools), American Woodmark (cabinetry) and Thomasville Furniture Industries (cabinetry).
