More About Adidas

adidas is a German multinational corporation headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany, that designs and manufactures shoes, clothing and accessories. It is the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe and the second largest in the world. Adidas was registered in Germany in August of 1949 by Adolf (Adi) Dassler after a family dispute within the Gebruder Dassler Schuhfabrik company with his brother Rudolf. Rudolf had already established Puma and would become his brother’s business rival with adidas. When adidas was registered it bore the soon to become famous adidas 3-Stripes.

A great start for adidas happened in 1954, when the German national football team faced the unbeatable Hungarians in the 1954 World Cup final. adidas has created lightweight football boots with screw-in-studs for the German team, and with the muddy mess they had to play in due to heavy rains, Germany won. This made adidas very popular, very fast for football pitches.

They also introduced a new shoe named for the 1956 Olympics, the Melbourne, as the games were held that year in Australia. Adi’s son, Horst handled the promotion and marketing and literally gave away the shoes to the Olympic athletes. They went on to win 72 medals that year with the footwear adidas provided.

adidas expanded globally in the 1960’s and 1970’s and maintained their position as a dominant manufacturer and retailer in the world sports shoe industry. In the late 1970’s they were manufacturing about 200,000 shoes per day and sales were well over a half billion dollars annually. They owned and operated 24 factories in 17 countries and 150 nations were selling their shoes. They also diversified their line to include jerseys, shorts, balls, tracksuits, athletic bags and other sports equipment.

Today, adidas has many stores and outlets across Canada and a very profitable and popular Canadian online store. They also have a Canadian Distribution Center in rural Ontario which enables the distribution of their goods quickly and efficiently to their Canadian stores and directly to their e-commerce customers. This huge distribution center is over 1 million square feet. It is not only a state of the art warehouse and distribution and fulfillment center; it also includes a mezzanine and office space. It was a major business endeavor and there were a lot of challenges that cropped up due to its rural location. They had to widen Highway 24 and create off ramps to Highway 403, along with installing traffic lights to support this major undertaking. They also named the road on which to enter this site Adi Dassler Way, in recognition of the original German sportswear company founder, Adolf Dassler.

They are still a huge player in the sportswear and footwear industry and total sales for adidas globally was listed at 19.29 billion Euros at the end of 2016. You can find quality and stylish sports shoes, apparel and accessories at their many brick and mortar stores and outlets and on their e-commerce retail sites. Their websites offers a complete array of sports needs for the youngest pee-wee star to the professional and Olympic athletes. They offer many specials and sales and accept adidas coupons in stores and on their e-commerce site.
